Move In Day!

We just moved into our new offices and boy did we do a Creative Juice number on them. The walls were all painted grey, they had no artwork and poor lighting. So in true Creative Juice/DIY fashion our whole crew grabbed paintbrushes and paint and we painted every office and made fun artwork.

We made artwork by framing cool scrapbook & wrapping paper and fabrics. We also cut up groovy posters into odd shapes and famed them individually. Each room has an unique look. Some rooms are funky and some are tranquil.

Here is the low down on the paint scheme: The art room (Jenn, Gina, Elizabeth and Tina) - avacado green. The 3 edit bays – deep red, blue, and pumpkin orange. Andy and Greg’s office – sky blue. Patrick and Zuza’s office – turquoise green. Make-up and Wardrobe – eggshell white. Jenn’s Office – hot pink and orange. Spencer and Joel’s office – grey with orange stripes. Jenny’s kitchen area – mossy green. The entrance – pumpkin orange.

The offices look great and at the end of the day we were all covered in paint – except for Patrick who was working on accounting all day.

Wardrobe Revival

It is a wardrobe revival kind of day on Creative Juice! This episode was such a blast to film. We were laughing the whole day because we had so many mishaps. First of all we kept “loosing the light” which means that the day was getting darker early and we had to keep relighting, as we were relighting, the dye bath for the slip was seeping out of the tub onto the craft station and then when we were sewing the quilt, the machine kept getting jammed. Even with all the mishaps this is one of my favorite episodes and I hope you enjoy it.

Santa Monica Beach Picnic

Things have been crazy this week. We are gearing up for more Creative Juice (we begin filming in 4 weeks) and we are as busy as ever making craft projects. I can’t wait for the weekend because, we are planning a picnic at Santa Monica beach to celebrate Father’s Day.

We will be grilling some delicious pineapple chicken kabobs, making a rustic dill potato salad, and stopping by the pier for an ice cream cone and a few carnival games. I hope you enjoy your weekend and don’t forget dad.

Pineapple Chicken Kabobs

Marinade: 1/2 c. soy sauce, 1 c. pineapple juice, 1/4 c. brown sugar, dash garlic powder, dash onion powder, 1/4 tsp. ground ginger, 1 1/2 tbsp. lemon juice

Kabobs: 6 skewers (Soak wood ones in water so they don’t burn), 8 chicken breast filets (cut into 24 pieces), 1 large green pepper (cut into 12 pieces), 12 pieces of pineapple, 1 onion (cut into 12 pieces), 12 Cherry tomatoes

In a plastic food storage container with a lid , combine all marinade ingredients, mix well and place the chicken in the marinade, cover and set aside for at least 1 hour.

Alternate chicken, green pepper, pineapple, onions and tomatoes onto the skewers. Place kabobs on grill about 8 inches from medium hot coals. Cook 10 to 15 minutes or until chicken is no longer pink, turning and brushing frequently with marinade.

Rustic Dill Potato Salad

Ingredients: 1/2 c. mayonnaise, 1/4 c. chopped fresh dill, 4 c. cooked cubed new potatoes, 1/2 c. chopped scallions, salt and pepper to taste

Combine mayonnaise, dill, salt and pepper in large bowl, add potatoes and scallions; toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate several hours or until chilled.

Preserving Foliage

Today we got a letter from a viewer who was planning on making the “snow globe” project that we featured in our "Bottles Up" episode of Creative Juice. (link below) She was wondering where to find liquid glycerine. She had looked at all the craft stores and could not find it anywhere. Finding liquid glycerine can feel like looking for a needle in a haystack because it is shelved with the soap making supplies. Many large chain craft stores stock the product and you can purchase it online at tons of soap making websites. (links below)

Liquid glycerine is used in everything from soap and lotion making, to fun snow globes, to preserving leaves and flowers. Here is an idea for preserving beautiful leaves with glycerine. Leaves preserved this way are supple and very long-lasting, and they hold their color well.

On a dry day and after the morning dew has dried, pick mature foliage from midsummer through fall. Tender new growth will not absorb the glycerine.

Clean any dust or dirt from the surface of the leaves and remove any imperfect leaves or stems. Crush the stems of the leaves 2 inches up from the cut end using a hammer.

Heat the liquid glycerine to 130 to 140 degrees F in a microwave oven or in a double boiler. Pour the warm glycerine into a heat proof bowl large enough for your leaves. Insert the cut and crushed stems into the bowl of glycerine. Allow them to remain in the solution for up to three weeks. You can also submerge foliage such as ivy and ferns in the warm glycerine. Remove the foliage from the preservative when the foliage is supple and has no signs of brittleness.
