Protect yourself this summer!
Hi guys,
It has been an extremely busy and exciting few weeks. I have been flat out like a lizard drinking!
I have finally (two year battle with the city of LA) commenced building my new home. In the past few weeks myself and a 3 man crew have finished demolishing part of my home, excavated for the new footings, built and set up all of the timber concrete forms, erected steel columns, built a concrete block retaining wall, tied rebar and poured 34 yards of concrete today! Well this is my excuse for not getting many tips to you recently.
Fortunately I have built and renovated many homes for myself and family to turn back over into the market. The reason I'm telling you this is because every time I do it, it’s a positive experience because you are running your own show (project). So if you are not currently active with a project at the moment. Look out for one and get started because it is an uplifting experience, not to mention the great money you can make!
My tip today is dress up like I have for the past few weeks: wear a large silly looking hat, cool tinted safety glasses and sunscreen 40+.
When you have set yourself up for a full days work this summer you will be protecting the most important tool. You!
Tip# 2. If possible follow and work in the shaded areas when working on your project. I will currently spend about 3 hours early morning in an area shaded by the house. Then switch over to the other side that shaded by the trees. If you have trouble escaping the direct sun. Work in the early part of the morning and late afternoon. You will enjoy it more. The middle of the day can be a good opportunity to pick up materials, catch up on paperwork or simply spend quality time with your family. When you’re doing your own project you can create your own schedule. Kids can prevent this? However they generally love being part of the action too. If you ask me, that’s good practical education right there.
