Live from Seattle , it's Sunday Knit (In)!

Hey, party peeps! I’m here typing to you on the final day of the west coast leg of my tour to support the new DIY book, Knitty Gritty Knits (a collection of patterns, instruction and tips from the first 3 seasons of the show) and my brand new line of yarn with SWTC, The Vickie Howell Collection. I’m really excited about today’s Knit In not only because I’m in Seattle with 4 of my knitter friends having our own little party but also, because I get to spend 6 whole hours chatting with you the viewer, about all aspects of knitting goodness. Woo hoo!

Here’s the scoop: tune in to DIY right now, until 8pmPT/10pmCT/11pmET for 12 back-to-back episodes of Knitty Gritty and I’ll be right there with you LIVE, to answer questions about the episodes your watching or really anything having to do with the show, my books, the new yarn, how-to stuff or whatever else you might come up with! Want to know how to become a Knitster? Just ask! Curious about how I got started on the show? I’ll tell ya! Dying for a pattern for a project that was shown on Knitty Gritty? I’ll direct you to where we keep ‘em! Post your questions/comments right here and I’ll do my best to get back to you immediately. It’ll be like our own, virtual Super Knit Party. What could be better than that?

So sit down, log in, and knit on!

Xoxo,
Vickie

P.S. Don't forget to knit 7x9" squares for Warm Up America! Click here for all the info you'll need to get started. :-)

P.P.S. First up, Knitting & Purling with my friend Share Ross. She has a new book out called, Punk Knits that, no pun intended, totally rocks! This episode was one of the first we ever shot, but still seems to run a lot.

Hi Vicki! I'm loving the live blogging! I will be knitting along. Can't wait to get your new book and some new yarn. Will it be in most yarn stores? We have a new one called Yarn Haven here in Knoxville that I am dying to go visit.

Thanks for having such a great show!! Have a fun party!

Posted by: Meredith at February 4, 2007 5:04 PM

This is FUN! I am a newbie knitter and can't get enough of it...just minutes ago, I finished felting the adorable wizard's hat that was on one of the shows...it is precious...and I actually made it! I can't thank Vicki and knitty Gritty enough for fueling my new habit...I am loving it!

Have a SUPER Sunday...

Hi Vickie:

I'm interested in how you got started knitting and also how the show came about.

It's great and I sure hope it continues for a LONG time to come! I can't tell you how much I've learned and the show came along at EXACTLY the right time ~ I picked up my needles after a 30 year hiatus from knitting and I've been unstoppable ever since! You're truly an inspiration and I've enjoyed all your great guests and have learned something new from each and every show.

Keep up the great work!

Last year working with the local Knitting and Crochet Guilds and several other teachers, we acquired over 400 squares for Warm Up America. Most of these were given to the homeless shelters and I have even seen a few out of the streets.

This is a good cause and every local can find someone who needs the blankets when completed. Be sure to get help when it comes to assembly. I tried to do them all and it is some work but well worth the results.

Where did you get that cool "knitting rocks" t-shirt?

Posted by: Meredith at February 4, 2007 5:07 PM

Hi! I need to know why the knitting 6 hour show isn't on HGTV....PLEASE answer me about that. Here I was in Arizona and so according to the ET times, it should have been on here from 3pm to 9pm! I always get to see Knitty Gritty every day at noon (2 hours earlier than the East Coast here). Where is the BIG Knit show?!

Posted by: Linda O'Toole at February 4, 2007 5:07 PM

Hey Vickie, that guitar strap looks cool. How did you come up with the idea? Because guitar straps don't really come to my mind when I think of knitting. :)

Posted by: Karen at February 4, 2007 5:08 PM

When is your yarn going to become available for sale?
I'm really looking forward to trying it :)

Posted by: knitterkitter at February 4, 2007 5:08 PM

Well, Vickie! this is very exciting for me. I actually met you the other day in Portland OR at Yarn Garden and You are absolutely more fabulous in person. I wanted to say thank you for being so gracious to all of us at Yarn Garden. You might remember me as the woman with the three boys and the husband who jokingly teased how you interrupt their ESPN show....Just know that was all in fun and my WHOLE family loves you and we enjoy watching the show.

Now back to my guage swatch

Posted by: Catherine at February 4, 2007 5:11 PM

I love when you explain the basics. I'm a beginner, yet watching Kitty Gritty makes me not afraid to try more complicated projects (or what I think are complicated - anything more difficulet than a scarf!). Thanks for a wonderful show!

Posted by: Cheryl at February 4, 2007 5:11 PM

I'm sssoooo bummed! I was looking forward to this all week got my stuff ready. Put my claims in on the big tv and no knitting!!! I didn't realize that it would not be on HGTV like the rest of the week...but on DIY which is not available in Dutchess Co, NY...I so wish I could see it on the internet. ROCK ON KNITSTERS for me!

Keep up the great work Vickie! We love watching your show. My mom and 4 year old niece all watch it with me. I learn a lot of new techniques and helpful tips. What is your favorite knit project?

Posted by: Mary at February 4, 2007 5:13 PM

Hey Vickie, we met you yesterday at your book signing (we were third in line, my dd Sabrina took pictures :-D)

I'm working on some squares for warm up america right now!

And, I had a pre-superbowl dye-in last night (pics on my blog).

Anyway, I have learned SO much by watching your show. Believe it or not, I only learned to knit last year and I'm dyeing, cabling, even designing...

Pics of our meeting yesterday are on my blog too. :-D

My question is, how did you get started? I know you are in the Austin Craft Mafia (awesome name) but how did you get a tv show?

Oh, and next time you come to Seattle, we'd love to set up a meet n greet dinner if you are game--Sabrina was sad that we didn't have time to make you some needle point protectors so maybe next time!

Love the show. Vickie, how did you get started on the show?

Posted by: Deb at February 4, 2007 5:16 PM

I have no clue what a live blog constitutes, but I'm going to leave my comment here anyway! I have HGTV on on my TV, and it's ten after 5 pm EST, but no Knitty Gritty! Arrrggghhh! Hope this resolves soon. Valerie, a definitely non computer person but happy knitter.
PS - got 1 1/2 blocks knitted already to send in to the Warm Up America location. Not til the 2nd one is finished, of course, and probably after several more get done....

Posted by: Karen at February 4, 2007 5:16 PM

Vickie,
I can't tell you how much I love your show and the different projects that you show. Have you ever thought of coming to Vegas to do a show? Hard to believe, but we don't have anything here that I have found that centers around needlecrafts. There are only 3 true yarn shops in this huge town. I have only been to one, and it isn't convenient to the bulk of the town. The other thing I was wondering about, have you thought of having the knitsters as the quests ... showing what they have learned from your show. I think that would be great. And how do you become a knitster?? I would love to join you one day.
Thanks for your time and for all that you do for the knitting community. Congrats on your new book and fiber line ... can't wait to get them and use your fiber. Have fun today!!

Hope to hear back from you when you have time,
Donna

Hi, I watch your show every morning on HGTV and have been so excited to tune into your marathon tonight. I am so disappointed that you are only broadcasting on DIY (not available on my cable). I guess I'll have to settle for the regular shows & find something else to do tonight. Good luck & have fun!

Posted by: Pat at February 4, 2007 5:17 PM

Dear Vickie,

I have so enjoyed watching your show. I had wanted to learn to knit for a long time but until I started watching your awsome show I just couldn't get the hang if knitting. I began knitting just 9 months ago and thanks to your show there isn't any project that I am not willing to try. Keep up the great work!

Sincerely,
Breanna

PS. I can hardly wait for new episodes to begin.

When will we get to see new episodes of Knitty Gritty? I am a new knitter and have learned so much from the show. Also, how can we find patterns for the items that are showcased on the show at the end of the show by the designers?

Keep up the great work!

I've already started making my "squares" and getting comfortable on this blizzardy Michigan day to watch some great knitting.

KnitterKitter-- Thank you so much!

Meredith--Hope Perkins from Hot Pink Pistol: www.hotpinkpistol.com custom painted that for me. E-mail her for requests! Oh, and yes, hopefully the yarn will be in most stores. Hint, hint, yarn stores. ;-)

Aesome! We're watching here in the Allen household, where all of us are fiber artists, from knitting to spinning to weaving. I'm looking forward to getting the Knitty Gritty Knits book.

About the tour .. any idea if you're aoming anywhere near Charlotte, NC? We'd love to have you hereabouts!

Hi! This is really fun, I love your show and have learned lots of great techniques from you. The knitty cam is the best, I like that I see it from my own knitting perspective. I am currently knitting a prayer shawl for our church, but have a lot of yarn for squares too. Have a fun Sunday!

Being Canadian, most of the craft programs I saw were from down here and none of them involved knitting. I started knitting Barbie doll clothes again recently (mostly designing as I go) Knitty Gritty has broadened my horizons owing

Love to see you're continuing to encourage new (and old) knitters to DO THEIR THING.

I love to watch Knitty Gritty and all the knitwear designers you bring on. As a newer knitwear designer, I would really enjoy a show devoted to how your designers got started, how they get their inspiration, their design and pattern creation process and what the hottest knitting trends are for 2007.

Thanks and enjoy your mega-blog!

Hi, Vickie. I am watching the marathon of your shows here in Alameda, CA. I read about the Warm Up America promotion last week, and already have 8 squares finished, and am working on another while I watch. I will put them in the mail tomorrow morning on my way to work. Keep up the good work!

PS Where did you get that fabulous T-shirt? I'd love to have one just like it.

I bought the Knitty Gritty Knits book this past week and I must say that the patterns are awesome! I am sooo happy to have the duplicate stitch pattern for the Rock Star Bag! I have been wanting to make one for a while now. I will definitely have to do that very soon! Excellent book, and I highly recommend it to everyone! Thanks Vickie :)

Hi Vickie!
This is so exciting! I am such a fan. I started knitting about 1 year ago and your program has taught me so much, I could never do the things I have done without that knitty-cam! I home school my 4 kids and I always take a break at 11am and 2pm to watch you. I am currently working on the corset-T for my teen-age daughter. Thanks again!

Posted by: Kathee at February 4, 2007 5:34 PM

Hi Vickie!
I love the show -- I dvr it every day to watch as a treat for surviving another day at work, lol.
Wish I could be watching the marathon on DIY, but the menfolk in my house have taken over the tv. As another mom of two boys, I"m sure you understand! ( (when my sweetie wanted to get a larger tv for the family room, he convinced me by saying that the knitty cam would be so much easier for me to see in high definition).
I was wondering, have you done a show that demonstrates blocking? I know I SHOULD be doing that on my projects, but there are different ways of doing it , and it puzzles me a wee bit.
Knit on!!

Posted by: Christie at February 4, 2007 5:34 PM

Thanks everyone for the squares. We really appreciate it!

Thanks Jana!

BTW guys, I'm totally trying to keep up. Sorry if I'm sucking. Please know that I'm reading everything but may only be able to respond to questions. Thanks!, Vic

I watched the show yesterday n Buffalo, NY and the boots were way cool!!!!

Keep up the good work.

Are your new yarns only in specailty stores?

Thanks!!!

Solo knitting here, waiting for the game to start. We just get HGTV and no DIY so I figured that we wouldn't get to see the KAL. Oh, well, at least I have my knitting! I'll be watching tomorrow again! Thanks for doing what you do so well!

Just wanted to let you know I too love your show and am so grateful to you for getting me interested in knitting again. I watch and tape when I can't watch. I have learned so much from you. Thanks for all the interesting projects and guests you have on your show. Keep up the good work. I'll be knitting my 7 x 9 square today too. I'll be looking for your yarns!!
Thanks again

This show is largely responsible for giving me the courage to move beyond scarves, and I am glad to have an opportunity to say thanks. I already enjoyed the process of knitting, but an entire new world has opened up for me in the last couple of years and your show deserves much of the credit.

I look forward to getting your new book, and hope you will follow it up with a second volume encompassing KG's second three seasons.

Speaking of which, I note on the website that there are two seasons' episodes that have not yet been aired, and was wondering when we will see them, and whether there will be more future seasons made?

I work in programming for DIY - and we air Knitty Gritty on HGTV - but the marathon is exclusive to DIY. If you can't see DIY, please call your cable or satellite operator and request it. In the meantime, you can certainly participate in the live blog. There are also some really cool videos you can see from the Knitty Gritty page on the website.

So hang out here and keep blogging with all these knitsters and enjoy!

Vicki, I feel like such a drooling fanboy to say 'I LOVE YOU!!!', but it's true. Love watching Knitty Gritty, as you never fail to teach something new as well as bringing a smile and giggle. I'd much rather be watching you and your guests teach the fiber arts than some football game! You're faboo, girly girl. Keep it up!

Hey Vickie,
I have to tell you my 5 1/2 month baby boy loves the show... I record all of the shows and watch them while I feed him in the morning and Mateo cannot take his eyes off of you... his favorite color is red...I am hoping he will want to knit with his mama when he grows up...
Love the show and want more!!!! I am completely addicted. Also, I love the idea of knitting for a greater purpose... I am working on squares and watching.... Mateo is conveniently taking a nap!!!
thanks for the show. janel

Someone asked about where to send squares - and also for some tips about how to knit certain stitches.
There's all kinds of info on the Knitty Gritty page - just go there and look around - you'll see videos you can watch and learn from...and the address to send the squares is on the pattern page here on diynetwork.com - but since you are knitting AND blogging (LOL) I'll put it here.

Shipping Address (for knit and crochet squares):

Hey Vickie:

Really enjoyed meeting you on Friday at Yarn Garden. Timothy loves the picture of the two of you and has it set as his desktop today!

I'm curious about the development of your yarn line. Were you involved in all phases of the development of the products or was it more of a question of giving your approval at the end? How were the GREAT colors chosen? Will there be something on your blog which will tell us which LYS will carry your yarn? After seeing them at Yarn Garden where you were there, I can't wait to get my hands on some.

Thanks! Rebecca

Hi, Vickie! Love the show -- and I especially enjoyed introducing my mother-in-law to it during a holiday visit. (She's one of those people who can actually knit the Kaffe Fassett patterns...)

My 10-year-old daughter and I are checking in with the Knit In during the marathon. We especially love the Knitty Cam -- if it were around when I was learning, I could have avoided a lot of strife. Instead, it's helping me rediscover technique and make projects other than accidentally asymetrical scarves

Thanks so much for helping bring hipness to knitting! My crrrraft grrrrl and I love it.

Hi Vickie,

I have been crocheting for a couple of years and just began kitting about 3 month ago. I was thrilled to hear about this knitting opportunity because I have 3 skiens of yarn left over from another project and now I can use them for a great cause.

My question is about how I am using them. I love knitting and crocheting but not joinging so much. My idea was to make strips that are 7 inches wide and join them myself. Would this be ok? Should I send the finished throw to Should I send this to DIY or somewhere else?

It would have been great to have ended the marathon with a show on joining squares or strips. Maybe next year! That's right I hope to see this again next year. Maybe you could do a pre-recorded (pre-game) "Pre-Knitty" show with tips on joinging and pictures from squares sent in from this year.

I enjoy this show more than I can explain and am thrilled for you about your new book and yarns.

It sounds like the past week has been REALLY busy for you and I hope you can get some time to relax and enjoy your boys.

Thanks,
Lynda

Hi Vicky-

I learned to crochet at 8 and knit at 12 and haven't done it for years. I am so excited about your show I started knitting again one day when I came across it. I record it everyday now as I am at work when it airs, and I watch it before I go to bed everynight while I work on my projects. Thank you for being such an inspiration. Now my son wants to learn to knit and why not??? Boys and girls in other countries are all required to learn to knit in school. It has amazing effects in children: coordination, problem solving, etc. I can't wait to get your book!! And I can't wait to send in my squares. I'm glad to be a part of this.

Hi after watching your show as often as I possibly can this may be out of place but.... you have great patterns and always use special yarns, I have an entire cedar chest full of plain old 4ply knitting worsted weight yarn, I would like to see you do some projects with just regular yarn. there have to be some patterns for regular yarn that are just as fun or wearable as speciality yarns.

Hi, I am a remedial blogger. I don't know if my first message went through because I don't see it on the list. So, I had asked about your adorable cardigan you wore on the family affair afghan show and the cute cropped sweater from the teen knitting show. Where might I find the pattern for those, if they are indeed handknitted?

P.S. Your show rocks!

What an awesome thing this is. My 10 year old daughter, Teaguen, shuddered at the thought of having to watch a really long a boring football game tonight. This is a perfect alternative! She and I will be checking in on a regular basis tonight.
I have a knitting club at the middle school where I teach and this quarter's service project is knitting squares for Warm up America. Teaguen and I are going to try and make as many squares as we can tonight.

hey

Knttiy Gritty is an awesome learning tool. While i haven't done a KG project (definately a goal) my knitting has improved a 100% if not a lot more

Any advice for those who are overwhelmed by the vast choices and seemingly high prices that is seen in many yarn shops. For example seeing 100% acrlyic yarn for 9.75. Call me cheap but can't i go to the craft store and get the same for 1/3 the price and get more yarn.--Rhonda

Vickie,

I love your shows, I always tape them and I have learned so much. I crocheted with my mom for 35 years and when she passed away I found it to hard to crochet so I learned to knit. I knit all the time and I am looking forward to knitting for Warm Up America. Please say Hi to your mom, I like to watch her on your show.

Hi,

I love Knitty Gritty and Vickie. This is an awesome idea; I have been contributing blocks to Warm Up America for a few years no, so I'm happy to see this support for a great effort.

One thing that has bothered me. On episode DKNG-206, for the Crossover Scarf, on the website, it doesn't look as though the directions are complete. I only see directions for the crossover pattern, not the featured scarf. I emailed the show a couple of times about this, but never heard.

Am I missing something?

Thanks! And, thanks so much for providing a great knitting show. I recently retired, so I can knit almost as much as I want to. I seem to plan my days around Knitty Gritty! My husband has started to ask knowledgeable questions about knitting techniques I watch, although he swears he will never become a knitter. He is a knitter supporter and recipient, and that's enough for me.

Alice.

HI ALL,
THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE EVER DONE ANYTHING LIKE THIS. IS THIS TRUELY LIVE OR IS IT LIKE THE MESSAGE BOARD ON THE DIY WEBSITE? I'VE BEEN KNITTING FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS NOW. I AM, WELL TOTALLY ADDICTED. WHAT CAN I SAY I JUST LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. AND I HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD THAT I AM A YARN OR PROJECT HARLET. NOT TOO SURE WHAT THIS MEANS, HOPE IT IS SOMETHING GOOD. HARLET, NOT SO MUCH, YOU KNOW I MEAN A GOOD THING. BUT I WILL BE PUTTING ALL MY SELFISH ENDEVERS AND JUST KNIT FOR THE CHARITTY TONIGHT. WAY TO GO VICKIE, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK,AND "KNIT ON"

Aww .. well, maybe next time you can get around to the beautiful South.

I've been working on squares, though the cat and dinner have interfered a bit tonight. I'm using up some of the homespun I learned to knit with, and just kind-of making up the square as I go along.

Hi Vickie,

I was watching the demonstration of 3 needle bind-off, and a question came to me -- why is kitchener stitch used to finish off socks instead of the 3 needle bindoff? Kitchener stitch only works for me if I chant while I'm doing it -- makes me look a tiny bit looney!!
Thanks,
Christie

Vickie,

I just started teaching myself to knit two days ago (Super Sunday Knit In got me motivated) and I have a question about the tension. My knitting is droopier than the bags under my eyes! I first started with the 14" needles but got so tangled and frustrated so I got the 10" 8mm needles and so far have learned to cast on and do knit stitch but it's so loose and mishappened and I don't know how to fix what I am doing wrong. Any suggestions?

One of the Knitsters is wearing a great pair of purple fingerless gloves. Pattern?

I'm LOVING it that so many of us that haven't knitted for years are picking it up today!!

Will this blog site be available for a while? I can't read all tonight. Can we stay joined via internet for progress? I'm a fairly new blogger and am not familiar with how it all works, but THANKS for putting us all together!

Back to row three. . .

Thanks,
Susie from Missouri

I was diagnosed with a really crappy disease a year and a half ago; the prognosis sucks. I was too weak to do anything but lay in bed and watch tv. I spent most of my time wallowing in self pity and was in the grips of depression. I'd had to quit my job of twenty five years, I couldn't cook or care for my family, I laid in bed and stared at the tv and pretty much waited for the Grim Reaper to show up.

One very happy day I found DIY and HGTV and to my delight, Knitty Gritty. I began to Tivo the show and watched faithfully and of course I wanted to try knitting, which was no small feat. I literally worked up a sweat the first time I tried to cast on. It was a challenge to say the least. I didn't give up and kept practicing every day.

Fast forward to today. My health has improved a great deal and I'm able to participate in my family's lives again. I have the energy to I knit all I want to. The doctor attributes all of my improvements to a positive mental outlook. I guess what I'm saying is thank-you Vickie, you and your show gave a me something to occupy my mind and my hands. It sounds simple, but knitting saved my sanity and gave me a purpose for waking up. My husband says it borders on obsession and I'm perfectly comfortable with that. I refuse to die now, I have too many things to knit.

You saved me.
P.S. Everybody got scarves for Christmas, and I'm trying to cover everything I own in lace stitches. :)

Hi Vickie,

I'll keep it short and sweet... Thanks for being a great host, attracting excellent guests, providing interesting projects, and giving us half-hour chunks of genuine pleasure. No matter what kind of day I may have, I always feel like smiling at the end of your show. Did I mention you're a great host?

Thanks DIY for finding Vickie and giving us Knitty Gritty. But..... We all know the mantra: "Don't worry. If you have any questions, just go to DIYnetwork.com, and you'll find all the instructions for today's episode." I admit, I do feel a bit disgruntled with the lack and/or poor quality of photos that accompany the show's info on your (DIY) website. Where photos or illustrations do exist, most seem to be the size of a postage stamp. Often, not even a decent photo of the project itself is available. Do you have any plans to address this deficit?

Please tell me why most patterns say to bind off in pattern. Why can't you just do a knit bind off without worrying about continuing the pattern?

Hi, Vickie! I watch Knitty Gritty every morning and I love it! I've knitted since I was a young girl, but now have a newfound excitement thanks to you. I knit with the residents in a nursing home, and am soon to start a knitting circle at church. You are so inspiring! I am gaining the confidence to try many of the patterns from your show. Not a show goes by that I don't learn something new! KNIT ON!

What a great way to spend the day-multiple episodes of my fave show, knitting and getting to do something for a good cause. I can't even begin to thank you for all the knowledge that has been passed on. In fact, I learned pretty much everything I know from your show. It's a true godsend for people that are stuck out in the middle of nowhere with no other knitters around. I don't think I have missed an episode since day one (thank god for Tivo!)and don't plan to miss one in the future. Even when it's something I have done, there is always a "knit bit" to teach me something new or a guest that has a "tweak" for something. It's totally great. I hope you and Knitty Gritty will be around for a very long time!

I started knitting in my sewing room this afternoon. I finished one block and started another block when my husband and I joined friends at our local golf club for the Super Bowl. Several of our friends asked what I was doing and expressed an interest in the project.
Please keep up the good work - by the way, does it (WUA) have any dead line?
Thanks again for letting anyone be a part of your project.

Well I logged on too early and have been on another site thinking it was this one. When Lily Chin was on I sent this comment and question.

Wow!! Lily Chin is amazing but she goes so fast that I can't keep up. It also would help if when the camera shows the knitting it was from the knitters perspective. I'm constantly trying to flip it around in my mind. Lily Chin is coming to the DFW Fiberfest 2007 in Addison TX The weekend of April 13 - 15. But I feel I will not be up to the challenge and will probably take some other classes. I look forward to meeting her though!! Hey Vicki maybe you could be a presenter in the future!!! I love your show and watch as often as possible.

Glad I finally found you!!!!!! Even if it is a bit late.

Do you still live in Austin or in LA now?

Hi Vicki! I love watching Knitty Gritty and have seen each show at least twice. I was just wondering if you are going to be taping any new episodes? Can't wait to see your new book either.
So far today, I've knit four squares for Warm up America.

Vickie,

First I have to thank you and your producers for Knitty Gritty. I had wanted to learn to knit for over five years but it just wasn't "clicking" for me like crochet did. Since I'm so impatient (grin), I kept getting frustrated and gave up. One glorious day last August, however, I discovered your show and was simply captivated. I work days, so I just put my relatively new DVR to good use and began recording your shows. I now have a collection of 49 episodes saved on my DVR that I just don't have the heart to part with, because after a couple of weeks watching your show I *finally* learned how to knit! YAY!! :) I was so thrilled! I don't think I've put my needles down for more than a couple days at a time since. My first major project was a sweater I knit for my sister for Christmas. I began it about two weeks after I learned to knit and finally finished it a couple of weeks before Christmas. I've also knit hats and gloves so far. I have even been known to take my projects to work and knit on my lunch break. Then when I come home and find a new episode on my DVR I'm so excited! I love all of the great projects featured on the show. In fact, one of the hats I made for a Christmas gift was the camo ear flap hat. I was afraid of circulars before that project, but I thought it was so neat when it was finished that I almost kept it! :)

Anyway, I love the fact that you are encouraging us knitsters to put our obsession to good use for charity. I volunteer at an animal shelter, but I have wanted to do something for a human charity for quite some time. I think the squares are just perfect for people like me who find larger projects less appealing because the instant gratification is delayed by my slow knitting. I am going to get to work on some squares!!

I also wanted to ask if your tour will include (or has included) a stop in the Cincinnati, Ohio area? You've been a great inspiration and I think it would be so great to meet you. Please let me know. Anyway, sorry about the long post! I tend to ramble, even when I'm just typing! Take care and KNIT ON! :)
