Where are you watching the show?
Starting a new thread here for organizational purposes. Just out of curiousity, where are you all holding your Knit Ins today? I'm sitting here in the livingroom of my friend Melinda who I actually met 4 years ago through a small on-line knitting group I'm a part of. The cool thing is, that 2 more of the gals from my group showed up, one who flew in from NYC just for this. Really cool.
One of my absolute favorite things about knitting is the community it's afforded me. I've met so many amazing people in completely different life spaces than me that I probably never would've met if we didn't have knitting in common.
I tried uploading a picture of Kristen, Lori and me taken about 2.2 minutes ago and another of Melinda holding up a couple of squares she made for Warm Up America. Alas however, it's not working.
Ok, back to questions!
xo,
Vickie
P.S. Karen & Nan from DIY have also logged on to help answer your questions so keep 'em coming!

You know, one of my best friends taught me to knit, and we used to knit together all the time. Till I moved 750 miles north! :)
Today, it's just my oldest daughter and me. She's 10 and is a good little knitster!

Someone asked about where to send squares - and also for some tips about how to knit certain stitches.
There's all kinds of info on the Knitty Gritty page - just go there and look around - you'll see videos you can watch and learn from...and the address to send the squares is on the pattern page here on diynetwork.com - but since you are knitting AND blogging (LOL) I'll put it here.
http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/crafts/article/0,2025,DIY_13786_5265113,00.html
Shipping Address (for knit and crochet squares):
Warm Up America! Foundation
Department DIY Network
2500 Lowell Rd.
Ranlo, NC 28054
This is a year long initiative for DIY Network - so you can send in squares at your leisure. Warm Up America says it takes 49 squares to make a quilt, so KNIT ON!

I am home with my puppies knitting away! I am desperately trying to finish a project I have been working on for a few weeknights - once I am done with that, I have set aside some yarn for my squares to send to Warm Up America.
Have fun today!

Hi all: I'm knitting at home with one eye on the game (go Bears!) and one eye on the marathon, catching up on the episodes I've missed. I started a little early (heh heh heh) so I should have 1 knitted and 3 crochet squares done by the end of the evening. I have a question, if anyone out there knows-- should we weave in the ends of our squares, or do they want them dangling for sewing-up purposes? Thanks for any help.

I'm watching from Louisville, Kentucky. I found out today that I won't miss the SuperBowl ads since they're available on our digital cable's "Free Spot". Thanks Insight! .... back to watching and knitting and planning and dreaming!!!

I am sitting at home in my "Lazy Girl" chair, happily knitting away (truthfully, reading the blog more than knitting right now... this is a distraction!) :) And, talk about multi-tasking.... hubby is in his Lazy Boy right next to me... while we watch the game on the big screen, I have KG on my laptop through my TV/Video card :) Gotta love that!
Vickie, I just started knitting after the first of the year and I have to say I think you ROCK. I have learned so much already and look forward to watching the show every morning at 11am (here in my neck of the Woods). I only wish I had some better yarn stores in my area because I am relegated to the limited offerings of Michaels and AC Moore.
I do have a question for you... I am interested in trying my hand at that pink/green/turquoise bikini that was featured on your show, but I can't find Cascade yarn in any of my local craft stores. Is there a comparable yarn that may be more readily available? If not, where can I buy the Cascade yarn?
Knit on, girl - you're awesome!

Hello Vickie
I am here in Minnesota watching and knitting. My six month old daughter loves the show we have been watching for months even though I have only been knitting for about a month. It is great practice making the squares for Warm up America. I will bring them to the Mall of America later this month.
Thanks for all the inspiration.

Hi! I'm knitting and watching from my home in Tulsa, OK.
I'm going to knit a few "Warm Up" squares and TRY to crank out another Modular Coaster (from the episode with Iris). I've got one finished and the pattern absolutely kicked. my. butt. I think I frogged it no less than ten times at various phases of the process (once at the very last triangle). Not kidding.
Knitty Gritty marathon on Super Bowl Sunday rocks.
Posted by: Jenny at February 4, 2007 6:50 PM
Ok football fans - keep on knitting & crocheting. The score of the game is now Bears 7, Colts 6. The Colts just missed their point after attempt after the holder bobbled the snap. I'll keep you updated on the score so you don't have to turn away from the Knit In marathon. :)
KNIT ON!

I'm knitting from home , in Portland, Maine. I hope to get a couple of squares done tonight.
I love your show. People on the DIY knitting board want to know if you read the board and if you will ever do a show on crochet?

Hi Knitty People,
I don’t know how to knit but my girlfriend is a "Rock Star" at it. I miss her terribly, as she has been on a west coast tour working for the last 10 days. Lucky for me she is on TV for 6 hours straight today. It’s the closest thing to having her here next to me so it will have to do. I just wanted to come on here and let her know how much I’ve been thinking about her. Foosball Pft!
Have a happy Super “Knit” Sunday everyone!

I'm watching the game with my husband and checking the blog frequently. Luckily the DVR will catch all the episodes of Knitty Gritty that aren't already saved on it.
I'm finishing a sweater for him for Valentine's day but as soon as its done, it'll be 7x9 inch squares for a while!

Okay, knisters, I have a comment and a question. First, you do need to weave in all ends before sending in rectangles for WUA blankets. Next, I recently knit a fair isle hat (my own design) in the round and I was wondering if there was a tip out there about how to avoid that little "jog" when completing one round and moving to the next.
With gratitude,
Debi

From Chickasha, Oklahoma, I'm really enjoying this day. 25 years ago, when I learned how to knit with an High School/Girl Scout friend, we use to go to a GREAT yarn store in Naperville, Illinois on Super Bowl Sunday, for a wonderful afternoon of snacks and sales. This "Knit In" is bringing back memories! I'm gonna have to e-mail my friend, it's been a while. I'm working on the second sleeve of a sweater pattern I found in a 1984 Vogue Knitting Magazine. I think I may actually get it done tonight if I sit here long enough!

Don't have DIY on our dish, though I watch you faithfully on HGTV every weekday morning on HGTV.
55 years old, knitting since 8-yrs old, embroidering and sewing earlier, weaving and anything else to do with fiber (except the dreaded macrame') since, professionally.
That includes generations of quilters, though I break the wall by having a few in galleries and museums.
APPLAUSE, APPLAUSE !!! for this project, and my best yarns are going into it, along with many email contacts to knit/crocheters across the nation.

This is such a great idea. I did that Caps to the Capital in December, too. DIY should do more like this!

Thanks for having a marathon of your show to accompany us while we knit. I'm glued to the TV, and having to ignore the shouts and yells in the other rooms of my house. Apparently there's some sort of sports event today? Something about Bears and Colts. Who cares?! Knitty Gritty is on!!!

here is mid Alabama- been knitting most all day and watching the marathon since it came on -
about your new yarns - anything in a light weight maybe cotton - its hard to make sweaters that aren't too hot to wear here - lots of other areas of the country have the same problems

I am in Queens, New York. Earlier I was running errands in between watching and making blocks. I am actually crocheting the blocks since I can quickly determine how wide the piece is after a row and redo it to adjust the width.
I have about 5 squares done. It is alot of fun watching the marathon!

LOVE your show! I just here at the computer reading all the comments as my TV provider, TeleMedia doesn't broadcast DIY. Thank goodness you have been on HGTV or I would never have discovered you. I have really learned a lot and appreciate all that you do to make it easier. The camera angles are great, too, because it lets us see what is being done. Knit on.

Hey Becky...
Sorry that you can't get DIY. Glad you can see us a little bit on HGTV. The Knit In is exclusive to DIY Network. Don't miss any more Knitty Gritty! If you don't get DIY in your area, call your local cable or satellite provider. Or you can make it easy and cut and paste the link here into your browser.
We appreciate the great response we've gotten so far from the knitters and crocheters out there. You guys are AWESOME!!!
