Tell a Story
We all have them, lots of photos taken at special events, holidays or vacations. There are some interesting images in the group but they're lumped together in a way that does not engage your viewer. Translation: you're excited about some of the pictures but no one else wants to watch your slide show. How do you show off your images in a way that is interesting and meaningful? Tell a story, visually.
Watch a great movie or TV show and notice how it's put together. You might see a wide shot of a room, then it cuts to a medium shot of someone's face, then a close-up of a foot or hand or other detail in the scene. That creates interest for the viewer and draws us IN to the story. The same principle applies when telling a story with still images.
Here is a good example of telling a story with very few images.

These pictures were taken by a student of mine who loves the golf course. He watched my Landscape and Panorama show (DTWP-104) and learned how to create a panorama image with his point and shoot camera. That's his wide shot. Next he took a medium shot of the pin, a closer shot of his shoes and golf club (nice perspective) and a detailed shot of the golf ball. See? Pretty easy. Try it yourself. I bet you start to see things a little differently and now, everyone will be interested in seeing your pictures!

Saw you on Christmas morning on CBS, are you going to leave us and go to the big leauges?
Hi Peter,
Thank you for emailing, glad you saw the show! I am right here and will never leave my viewers. Although The Whole Picture does not appear on the DIY programming schedule for the 1st quarter of 2007, it will air on HGTV-HD.
Best,
Erin

Thanks for your superb show. Please tell me what
kind of a monitor you have on your computer when you edit pictures on the show.
Hi Judy,
Thank you :-) Here is a link to where I talk about both monitor/tablets that I use on the show. Let me know if you have any other questions!
